• Legislations are there to protect people at work and those affected by work activities. A legislation to health and safety is set out so that employees and employers know how to be safe in A work place.
Main points of policies and procedures
• Policies and procedures of health and safety are there to help everyone how to do something or what must be in place to make everyone safe.
Responsibilities of:-
• Self – find your exit upon arrival in someone’s house, report anything that could cause trips or falls I.e. frayed carpet. Secure windows and doors on exit. Check all equipment before use e.g. electrical working correctly, no frays on hoist sling. Document everything down for the next carer to see.
• Employer – overall responsible for all employees, to provide a safe place to work, training to work safely and safe equipment to use.
• Others – should act in a way to not cause accidents or Ill health. To report any hazards this could be works for family member.
Tasks without training
• Use of equipment – hoists, slings, slide sheets
• Medication- administration, storage, documenting
• First aid
• In case of emergency – fires and the use of extinguishers.
• Food handling – cooked properly, hand washing, PPE
Be able to carry out own responsibilities for health and safety
• The use of policies and procedures in the work place are very important to help all involved to work safely. Following policies and procedures is extremely important, working in ways that have not been agreed with the employer or without training can cause harm to yourself and to the people we support.
• To help others understand and follow safe practices, you should lead by example, be trained correctly, have regular updates on training, have supervision and document everything for the follow on carer.
• Monitor and report health and safety risks, each carer has the responsibility to document anything that could cause harm, we have designated books to record such things for the follow on carer, also should be reported to the office so the correct procedures can be put in
