The Air Campaign in Afghanistan has become a typical operation under the last two administrations. The United States of America not only has the largest Air Force in the world, but it?s Navel Air Assets make up the fourth largest Air Force as well. The United States now fights by using these assets to dominate the modern battlefield and the Campaign in Afghanistan is no different.

A brief timeline of some of the important events in this campaign now follows:
Sep 19: U.S. dispatches more than 100 combat and support aircraft to various bases in the Middle East and Indian Ocean. Theses will join with the 150 planes already in the region. In addition, the aircraft carriers USS Roosevelt and USS Kitty Hawk will join the USS Enterprise, USS Carl Vinson, and HMS Illustrious bringing total US aircraft in the region to over 500.
Sep 23: Talaban militia claim to have shot down a UAV spy plane, the US admits one is missing.
Oct 01: Air force General Richard Myers assigned Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Oct 07: First air strikes against Afghanistan, targets include Kabul, Kandahar, Jalalabad, Heart and Mazar-I-Sharif.
Oct 08: Strikes continue with US planes coming under fire
