United Airlines is one of the most respected airlines in the world, but the post 9/11 American era and European rivals are threatening that status. In the past year, German carrier Lufthansa recorded net income of $774 million with revenues exceeding $18 billion. All this prosperity in Europe despite the badly damaged travel industry.
