General Electric Co. was formed in 1892 with the merger of the Thomas-Houston Electric Company and Edison General Electric. Both companies were involved in the production of electrical systems and found that producing a complete unit was becoming more and more difficult by simply relying on their own technology. The merger of these two companies made General Electric a dominant force in its industry.
