The Pontiac Firebird made its debut in 1967. Shortly afterwards the Trans Am debuted in 1969. The Firebird and Trans Am were not a success in the beginning. Through the years their production numbers went up and down. Although Pontiac Firebird Trans Am?s will no longer be manufactured after 2002, they will always be a popular and head turning automobile.
The Pontiac Firebird made its official debut on February 23, 1967 (History of the Firebird). In the Firebird?s first year the production numbers reach a little over 82,000. The first generation?s best year was 1968. The production numbers reach an astounding 107,112 (History of the Firebird). In 1969 the numbers dropped down less than 84,000. The debut of the Trans Am was not as successful as Pontiac had hoped for.
In 1967 and 1968 the appearance of the Firebird was basically the same. The Firebird came from the factory with a 326 V-8 or a Firebird 400 motor. The cars had a hood with a Ram Air scoop.
