Organizational Behaviour – Motivations Systems
A brief introduction into my workplace is required to effectively give a proper description of the motivational systems used. My workplace is a division of the federal government called Statistics Canada. The parallel for the United Kingdom is called ?National Statistics? at www.statistics.gov.uk, as well the United States national statistical agency is called ?The U.S. Census Bureau? at www.census.gov, which itself is a division of the United States Department of Commerce. My place of residence is in Ottawa, Ontario, located in the heartland of the Ontario peninsula. Located right on the border with Quebec it is the capital of Canada. Ottawa being the federal capital, but not the provincial capital, it has not only the federal legislature (our version of the House of Commons and Senate) but also the Supreme Court of Canada, all subservient to the Queen. Ottawa and the community located just across the river in Quebec called the Outaouais region have a total population that number just over 1,000,000 people.
Out of this 1,000,000 gross (including children), over 300,000 people work for the federal government. This has consistently been the leading employer of Ottawa?s workforce for over 50 years.
