Big Iron
BIG IRON 101
We were working in Robert?s Dale Alabama on a two thousand foot television tower. Doug was the leader of this motley bunch of misfits; he was always wearing old sweat pants and looked like he were some kind of homeless person; Doug shaves his head and is very outspoken. He comes from Florida and gives off this confident aura; he has seen and done a lot of impossible things with heavy steel very high in the air. This leads us to my story.
My first thought was, man this is going to hurt. Then almost without hesitation you get this sinking feeling in your stomach. I called to Doug via my two-way radio and told him that we would need to get an ambulance out here as soon as possible there had been a terrible accident. More about this later now let me tell you about the rest of the crew.
It was my first winter working with Doug?s crew; they were an experienced crew that ended up being one man short of a full crew, so it was decided by the powers that be that I go down to join them. I was excited to be going; I had
