In Cambodia, population growth and rapid economic growth are causing environmental pollution. Economic development activities have created significant environmental consequences, including air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution and solid waste. Industry is one of the main sectors of Cambodia’s economy. However, environmentalists have shown four major industrial activities that cause environmental pollution, such as the garment industry, brick kilns, millers, and the rubber processing industry.
Air pollution is a dangerous and dangerous air that is poisonous to human life. According to the Environmental Performance Index, Cambodia ranked 162 out of 178 countries based on air quality in 2014.2
Water pollution directly affects the environment, and it also affects both humans and animals directly and indirectly. Utilization of clean water and sustainability is still a challenge, especially in rural areas. Notably, the contaminated river is still an important source of water for daily use of people, as water and sanitation facilities remain limited. Polluted or polluted water is the result of the mining industry and other industrial activities that are detrimental to human health.
In Cambodia, as in other developing countries, the other major environmental problem is the disposal and management of solid waste. Emissions are directly related to population growth, leading to environmental and human health concerns. Due to the lack of proper waste management practices and limited public awareness, solid waste remains an enormous environmental pressure.
The Ministry of Environment was established in 1993 on Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Planning, Management, and Conservation of Natural Resources, Environmental Law and Environmental Education .5 Establishment of the Ministry of Environment is an important first step towards regulating the environment in Cambodia. Meanwhile, the law on environmental protection and natural resource management in 1996 also creates and sets basic standards for air pollution .6 pollution and solid waste management are under the Decree on Environmental Impact Assessment, 1999 decree on Solid Waste Management, 1999 Decree on the Control of Toxic air and the sound of 2000 and the Decree on the Control of Water Pollution in 1999.
So far, the Ministry has developed a road map on the national green development with the aim of excluding green development into national development strategies .7 In 2013, the government adopted a national policy and a strategic plan for the development of green for the years 2013-2030 in order to promote development and economic Green environmental sustainability through green technology, green jobs and green credit finance green investments, green .8
In November 2015, a new sub-decree on waste management has been developed and implemented. Businesses and citizens will be fined 10,000 to 200,000 Riel (approximately US $ 2.50 to US $ 50) if there is any waste disposal or garbage disposal in public places and do not follow corrective disposal and disposal guidelines.
