The American Revolution was a political and military struggle among the thirteen colonies and England. Since the British defeated the French and their Indian allies in the French and Indian War, the result was British control over most of North America. This cost England a lot of money and Parliament decided it was time for the colonies to pay a share. Therefore Great Britain insured the war.
England put harsh acts and taxes on the colonists without having a meeting or asking them their opinion. The effect of this is they fought back. In 1764 the British put a series of taxes to raise money from the colonies. This became known as the sugar act. One of its major components was raising the expense on sugar. Led by Prime Minister George Greenville, thought the colonists had to continue helping them with the British troops because of debt. Protests and Riots made the British lessen the expense of sugar. Then the Stamp Act was forced onto them. Which put taxes on all legal documents. The colonists responded with vocal protests. The British weren’t as moved by the protests so the colonists decided to take it to the next level and stopped all import for British goods. This was part of the Townshed Acts. England’s responded by sending 4,000 troops to restore order in Boston, things became a lot worse. Seeing all these things that Britain did the was unavoidable. On March 5, 1770, a crowd of about 60 people had enough and a bunch of British soldiers. They began throwing anything they could find near them, for example, rocks, snowballs and sticks. The soldiers pulled out their guns and 5 people out of the 60 were killed. In 1773, the East India Company was importing tea to England. In protest, a group of Boston citizens disguised themselves as Indians and boarded a ship. After they got on, they dumped a few hundred chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. This act or protest, is known as the Boston Tea Party. Parliament was outraged, and therefore the Intolerable Acts started. The people who were part of the Boston Tea Party would be tried in England. Colonists home’s had to host British troops and the Boston Harbor was closed. Others might say the American Revolution could have been avoided. England exposed harsh acts and taxes on the colonists without the citizen’s consent and the effect was they fought back, If the Parliament members had noticed they had neglected them for so long, peaceful negotiations would have been possible. Or, the colonists could have abided by England’s acts and cooperated peacefully. The truth is none of this happened and we can all go about the what if’s. The truth is that England messed up by making the colonists paying all those taxes that weren’t needed. England made one bad decision after another and the colonists had enough. So the colonists took a stand.
After every act that was passed from England, the colonists responded with protest. Any sane group of people under such an unfair rule the British put in they would want to leave and not stay anymore. All the acts England made fed the colonist’s want to have their own nation. This is why the American Revolution was unavoidable.
