This is when she invites Alcidiana to move in with her so that she can pilfer from her sister’s fortune. Miranda decides to murder Alcidiana because Alcidiana was sensible enough to perceive her sister’s real motive and leaves the house.Van Brune suffers from an unrequited passion for Miranda. She skillfully enflames the boy to the point of madness and talks him into performing the murder for her. The reward is what he desires. She tactfully promises Van Brune sex in exchange for murder, but she never really means to pay up. He is so dazed and dazzled that he agrees without hesitation.
