Baz Luhrmann’s version of Romeo and Juliet which was created in 1996

Baz Luhrmann’s version of Romeo and Juliet which was created in 1996, is a good example of a olden day play which has been modernized to appeal to the more modern audience of today. Luhrman’s goal would have been to make the film interesting to an audience of today without taking away the authenticity of the original play itself. To achieve this he kept the dialogue original and authentic but gave the setting a more modern look to it, by doing this it gives the generation a more vivid idea of what’s actually going on in the film.

To captivate the audience Luhrmann changed the setting of the film. Instead of setting the film where it was written to be in, which was Verona Italy. Luhrmann based it in an urban city called Verona beach , Verona beach had gas stations, high rise buildings and fast cars nothing that was around when the play was actually written. Luhrmann may of done this so the audience can relate better to the film, if the setting had stayed in Verona, italy the audience of this generation may of gotten lost in all that was going on.
