Introduction
Ever since the invention of printing, books have been the medium of choice, providing an opening on to the imaginative world of others and enabling us to enrich ourselves with their creativity. A book is a series of pages assembled for easy portability and reading, as well as the composition contained in it. The book’s most common modern form is that of a codex volume consisting of rectangular paper pages bound on one side, with a heavier cover and spine, so that it can fan open for reading.

Libraries are especially important now when the whole idea of education is stressing more and more independent learning and acting. All citizens must be able to find and use information. Libraries are not organized like book stores. Book stores use ordinary language, such as Religion, History, Reference, etc. to categorize books. The system works well enough for people who want to browse a broad subject or who want a particular title and can easily identify the category. It works less well for people who want a narrower topic or who want something that crosses categories.

Books may be borrowed from any of the campus libraries, but the lending policies in each library may differ. Having a book borrowing system can help maintain those policies, at the same time it can able to reduce manual operations in borrowing a book that can help the librarians to facilitate and monitor the books with ease.

Background of Study
According to UNESCO (2006, 2011), the world literacy rate, which in the mid-19th century was around 10 percent, is now approaching 85 percent. Because of the vast amount of people finding the books more useful and informative, people tend to go to the libraries to search for the information that they want to know. But having a system that operates manually is a hard thing which gives a lot of work, especially to the librarians who are facilitating the library.

This book borrowing system gives credit to the authorities in a library to help them manage and monitor their books being borrowed by the book users.

Research Description
Objectives (General and specific)
The aim for this project is to design a library book barrowing system which targets to reduce manual operations in registering the books and the borrower’s personal information for security measures of borrowed books.

Specifically, the study aims to
1. Develop a system that provides easy access for borrowing and returning of books.

2. Lessen the manual operation for registration of book and logging personal data (name, address, etc.) of the borrower.

3. Monitor the books being borrowed.

4. Communicate to the borrower for the due date of the book to be surrendered.
Manageability (Scope and limitations)
The main focus of this project is for book barrowing and returning system in library, the books in this system are registered through barcode scanning and the data collected are stored in database. The system also uses Real Time Clock (RTC) module for the duration of the borrowed book to be surrendered and GSM module to send Short Message Service (SMS) to notify the barrower about the due date of the book to be surrendered.

Expected Output
1.A prototype system for borrowing and returning of books with the use of barcode scanner and GSM module for notifying the borrower for the due date of the book to be surrendered.

2.Complete project documentation
