Feudalism
The author described the time he is writing about as the “night of the ninth century” because it was the dark times of the nineteenth century. According to the writing, barbarians had invaded them and did cruel things to their town.
Feudalism proved necessary or useful to European society. According to his account, ” There is no longer any trade, only unceasing terror. Fearful men put up buildings of wood only. Architecture is no more..” This quote explains that without trade their technology is no longer advanced and able to support them. They need feudalism.
It is important to clarify definitions before discussing or debating topics because the reader has a better understanding of the point you are trying to make.
It has been difficult to agree on a definition of “feudalism” because Medieval historians remain loyal to its restricted meaning of fiefs and holders of fiefs.
People looked to be vassals of the lord because the lords provide food and clothing for them.
The lord and vassal depended on each other because the lord provided food and clothing for the vassals. The vassals provided protection in return.
The six things that a faithful vassal should have always kept in mind were : what is harnless, safe, honorable, useful,easy, and practicable.
The vassal was expected to not make it difficult for his lord and he should not make it impossible for the lord that which is possible.
A vassal might has more responsibilities and a lord much less because the vassal is like an assistant to the lord.
Laws limited the power of a price/lord because it lowered the advantages of them taking advantage of other social classes.
