During the time period of Liesel’s life

During the time period of Liesel’s life, Adolf Hitler was in power. Hitler used the power of words to influence people, and he used that power for evil. But Liesel used words for good. Liesel read to Max, the Jew, to make him better “The first few days she sat and talked with him.” (317). Perhaps her talking to him might bring Max back. When the war began, Liesel used the power of words to calm and comfort the other people in the bomb shelter. When the bomb raise began Liesel read to the people in the basement. She read to them to escape them from the action, tears, and the dropping of bombs. It was a sign of escape. The power of Liesel’s words were strong enough to silence, but soft enough to comfort.
