No doubt, the basic work of a teacher is to teach the learners, yet, today teaching is not all about just simply planning and delivering a lesson. It’s way more than that as many hard duties and huge responsibilities also get along in this profession. While educating or training, the basic duty of a teacher is to make sure that the learner is gaining the knowledge they are meant to gain. Student or trainee should be satisfied with the knowledge or practice being provided by the teacher abiding by the rules and responsibilities of that institution or department.
Although education and training are closely intertwined, yet going a bit into the grave detail, we understand that their nature or orientation is slightly different. Similarly, the roles and responsibilities of a teacher might vary both in education and training as ‘education’ refers to the process of getting knowledge within an educational institution while ‘training’ refers to the practice within a specific field or subject that is meant to increase one’s capability or capacity within the relevant field. Education enables you learn academically in a typical theoretical way, through degrees or even certificates, whereas, training can help you practice in a specific area or to learn a specific skill. For instance, if you want to be a teacher, the QTS qualification that is required would be called your education, and, if you want to be a receptionist, you need to get training on how to handle situations or deal with the things according to the certain code of conduct of that workplace.
A learner can get educational qualification from school, college, university or other educational institution that offer courses. On the other hand, training is usually done within the workplace or training centers.
For education and training purpose, teachers should not only have a vast knowledge of the subject they teach, but, should also be able to deal with different challenging situations whatever might be. Besides, a teacher must be able to maintain a healthy environment to maximize the learning opportunities for the learners as well as should be able to understand the different teaching techniques to use as and when required.
Roles and responsibilities can be different for a teacher and a trainer as educating a student is usually linked to any academic learning with or without offering professional practice, while a person who helps you learn specific skill more practically and less theoretically has different roles and responsibilities in different fields. Roles and responsibilities vary from place to place or in other words profession to profession. Like a trainee doctor at hospitals or healthcare centres would have duties and responsibilities that are entirely different than a person working at the reception, at the till, or in office based working environment.
A teacher’s general responsibilities include planning, preparing and delivering the lesson plan considering the better seating arrangement for the tasks as well as understanding the needs of each learner, marking the attendance, record keeping of each learners progress, achievement or development on individual basis, assigning the tasks and giving feedback regularly. On the other hand, a trainer plans as well as demonstrates one-to-one coaching techniques in a professional environment to ensure the learner is capable to carry out certain professional tasks independently and confidently. A trainee’s level of competency is regularly assessed that guarantees their ability to work like experts with the other employees in the future.
