T-shirts have become more than a casual slouchy piece of clothing that gets thrown on without care or consequence. Recently, T-shirts have become not only an essential part of the sportswear uniform but also a trendsetting and even fashionable expression. Designers now are leaning towards cleaner lines and minimal silhouettes, attempting to replicate current uniform designs precisely or experimenting with new alternative colors, materials, styles, and graphics. The T-shirt trends have become very diverse with quite the expanded range. Limited edition and “one of a kind” items are also very hot. Consumers don’t want a run of the mill t-shirt that every other fan is wearing, they want to have something unique where they can stand out and be noticed. For example, Texas Christian University (TCU) worked with New Era to create a limited-edition hat made from game-worn baseball jerseys. The Athletic Director said “After the school’s 4th consecutive College World Series appearance, the university was looking to provide something really unique to the fans”. This is a first of its kind for the college market, and will for sure be an immediate collectors’ item. (TCU Cap reference)
