In the twentieth century

In the twentieth century, early year’s provision concerntrated on families that needed help with social needs and difficulties. There was early years provision available in the private sector in the form of childminders, nannies and private nurseries. Families requirements for their children are different, some parents wanted care for their children so that they can go to work, some parents wanted to stay with their children while they are socialising with adults and children, some parents wanted their children in a setting that offers services like learning and some parents wanted their children to be at home because some families can’t afford to pay fees. During the 1960s the playgroup movement developed, where parents set up and run provision for their own children to learn through play in village halls and other places. Day nurseries mainly catered for children who were at risk from harm. Early year’s sector has various forms of provision to meet the needs of families.
