The medical model is historically traditional view of disability as a problem to be cure. They treat the personas a sick patient and their disability as something to be “cured”, even though may conditions have no cure. People with disabilities have to change to fit into society.
The social model is the model is a more modern, constructive approach to disability. The focus is in the society needs to change to fit into society. The nursery adapts to the needs of children with disabilities. They do not adapt to our setting. We plan all activities and resources to facilitate to children with disability what they need to achieve their goals. By removing barriers and adapting the environment you are allowing children and young people chances to achieve and learn which promotes confidence and self-esteem.
As a practitioner should be guided by the social models, and you should look at how to adapt our resources and practice to the needs of individual children.
