Biblical history is not an objective reporting of purely human events. It is an account of God’s acts in history as He works out His salvation in the world. All history writing can be considered subjective because it owes its shape to it’s author’s activity in selecting and communicating material. The biblical historian is not interested in all aspects of the past but focuses on the community of Israel. And although the community interests can be seen in the political and military life of Israel, biblical historians are not interested in politics for its own sake, but only in how politics and military action affect Israel’s relationship with God.
