Where can Rice be Found

Where can Rice be Found?: Rice Can be found in numerous places that are located in Asia, Africa and India. They are normally found in remote grassland biomes due to clean water and is essential to prevent any floods happening during the growth of rice. There are three classifications of rice environments which are based on altitude.Irrigated, Rainfed lowland and Rainfed upland. About 75% of rice we consume is from the Irrigated rice environment. The other 25% remaining comes from both Rainfed lowland and Rainfed upland. Looking at this map, these are the places you would find rice farms. The Colours represent different areas in which the environment is suitable for the method of rice growing. The dots represent 10,000 hectares or 100 square kilometres of land in which is used for rice growing.
The Climate and Soil of Grasslands: Grasslands has the best soil for most crops like rice to grow. It has hot summers and cold winters. The rainfall in the grassland biome isn’t as affecting as the savanna. The rainfall averages around 50 to 89 centimetre per year.In the grassland biome, the soil is nutrient-rich from the growth and decay of deep grass roots. It benefits the soil as the rotted roots hold the soil together, providing the food source for living plants.
Challenges in Rice Growing: When growing any crop, we all face challenges at some point. But the crops also face big challenges. Rice growing can be impacted by the climate change. Studies have shown that the overall impact on rice growing due to climate change is likely to be bad for the rice. As the climate changes, the rice cannot withstand the temperature changes as it applies heat stress and can raise sea levels. This result can danger the crops as the sea levels can become floods and the heat can damage the rice. The climate can be unpredictable when changing. For a day it can be really cold then the next day it can be really hot.
Second Challenge for Rice: The demand for rice is increasing over time. The resources are shrinking at a fast rate. For every one billion people who demand rice, 100 million more tons of rice are needed to be produced annually. This can impact negatively due to all the rice decreasing over time as it passes. Rice areas in the major producing countries are now decreasing because the land is being converted for other purposes.Pests infestation is also impacting the farms due to unwanted chemicals sprayed on the farm to keep insects away damaging the rice farms by the chemicals spreading throughout the water. This can be harmful to the farms, losing more than a million grains of rice.
Food Security: Food security is the state of having reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.As for the grassland biome, a sustainable way is having a maximised pasture as the primary diet. This makes it that it reduces the inefficient use of suitable land and increases the food that is directly available for human consumption.
