Throughout history and even today we see that there are many stereotypes that are associated with race. Especially ever since America was discovered by the Europeans, the Indian stereotype began to form. In this article, La Farge emphasizes the stereotypes that come with being an American Indian.
The first myth that we see mentioned in the article was “The Noble Red Man.” A lot of what we still see today. That these people were a bunch of unintelligent humans who wore feathers, face paint, and lived in tents. However the point the La Farge is trying to make is that it is not all like that. It also emphasizes that the Europeans saw them as “savages.” La Farge does a good job of showing how the Indians were actually a good and peaceful group and how although they were different, they were developing their society.
