Style is the manner in which an author presents information and ideas. A writer’s style is created by his or her choices of words, sentence structures, tone, image, point of view, figurative language, symbolism, and mood.
Choice of words may include emotive language. Emotive language is the deliberate choice of words to elicit emotion usually to influence.
Figurative language are words or expressions with a meaning that is different from literal interpretation. It’s often used to describe something by comparing it to something else or create mental pictures with words.
Symbolism is used to create mental pictures with words. The Animal Farm is an allegory about the Soviet Union and its history. Orwell uses big symbols in Animal Farm, most of them representing about the soviet union or ideals imposed by it’s government in the first half of the 20th century.
Mr.Jones symbolizes Tsar Nicholas II, Russia’s last Tsar. Mr.Jones is hated by his animals because he was being cruel. The peasants and laborers of Russia in the early 1900’s believed the same of Nicholas.
Everything in this novel can be seen as figurative language , from the allegory to the symbols and even personification examples. However there are also other more conventional forms of figurative language.
For example when the narrator says about Mr.Jones ” had been a capable farmer, but of late he had fallen on evil days. He had become much disheartened after losing money in a lawsuit, and had taken into drinking more than was good for him.” The phrase “had fallen on evil days” would literally mean that Mr.Jones would fall on evil days , which is not what the author literally means.

Emotive language is used in literature to be able to evoke emotional response to a particular subject.
Major used a lot of emotive language in order to be able to influence the rest of the animals in the farm in order to create the rebellion against humans. Major used words that helped him gain that emotion that was needed. For example ” Let us face it: our live are miserable, laborious, and short. We are born, we are given just so much food as will keep the breath in our bodies, and those of us who are capable of it are forced to work to the last atom of our strength; and the very instant of our usefulness has come to an end and slaughtered with hideous cruelty.”
This sentence creates emotions in the animals that would surely move them towards a rebellion against the humans. Throughout his speech major uses words such as “slavery” to create even more tension between the animals and the humans.
