3 words: BAD NEW polio. Because polio IS bad and IS still relevant. Most, if not all polio cases are only in the tiny pockets of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria. Due to Polio, children under 5, lose their legs, and some children even lose their lives when the polio virus reaches respiratory muscles, suffocating children from the inside . The saddest part is that these lives live in the poorest parts of the world, so polio makes it even harder for them to find the meaning of life. And to combat this horrific polio virus, students from this very school have exceeded not only our expectations, but the expectations of the Senior Advisor for the Polio Unit In UNICEF! Students like Rebecca Yahya (from Whistler), leads the Year 9 polio point leader board. Eirreqa Marzuke (from Heron), leads the Year 8 leaderboard. Edward Kitchin (from Monarch), leads the Year 7 leaderboard. Not to mention Haziq Jeffrey (from Eagle) who is currently leading the school leaderboard with 5 sets of polio points! Which means 5 lives saved. It’s funny isn’t it? Haziq Jeffrey is from Eagle, and an Eagle is the national bird of Afghanistan. Huh. Anyways, all I ask of you is to not take the eradication of polio for granted, it may seem like a difficult goal, but its very achievable, Jerudong International School was quoted to support the “final push to eradicating polio” by UNICEF! Polio points are not teaspoons of change my friends. It is cups of change. And a cup is like 48 teaspoons. And I want you to take these Cups of change, fill it to the brim with polio points. Those polio points will be converted into money, and the money will be used to significantly change someone’s life. You might think that we’re the faster ones in this race of eradicating polio. But we haven’t won the polio battle yet. So let’s not slack off and let’s beat polio by working hard and fighting every single day for the better.
