Tan used belief system at the beginning of her (written opinion) when she described who she was and whom she was writing to. The honesty she used when describing her as “not an educated person of English or books” drew the attention of readers like myself. Right after that open and honest statement the audience was aware that the rest of the (written opinion) would continue to be open and honest as well as very interesting and entertaining, which it was. This worked as belief system because it helped her readers to feel connected to her making them more interested in what she had to say.
