Rite Aid Corporation is a retail drugstore chain in the United State serving customers in 30 states across the country and in the District of Columbia. As of December 2000, Rite Aid operated 3,800 stores. Until October 2000, Rite Aid operated in two business segments: the retail drug segment and the pharmacy benefit management (PBM) segment. In October 2000, the Company sold its PMB segment. Through its retail drug segment, the company sells prescription drugs and a wide assortment of general merchandise, including over-the-counter drugs, health and personal care items, cosmetics, greeting cards, household items, convenience foods, photo development services and seasonal merchandise. Through PCS Health System, Inc., the PBM segment provided pharmacy benefits management services to employers, insurance carriers and managed care companies.
