The Beginning
It started as a new and innovative agricultural tool for farmers in the Western part of the United States in 1871. The company that built it quickly discovered, through environmental scanning, more uses beyond farming. Other effective uses of this product came to include road building and earthmoving at construction sites all across the globe (?All In A Day?s Work? 10). The product I am referring to is the track-type tractor and it has helped reshape the world we now live in, both physically and economically. The company I am referring to is Caterpillar Inc., headquartered in Peoria, Illinois. Caterpillar?s performance for the past 76 years is proof that it knows how to craft and implement winning strategies.
