Ever since I was a little kid, working on cars has been a dream of mine. I have always wanted to fix up an old hot rod, drive it down the road, and watch peoples heads turn as they drive past me. This is why I think that being a Body Repairman and an Automotive Painter is the right job for me.
Body and Repairers remove dents from fenders and body panels, weld torn metal, replace body parts and straighten bent frames. Repairers decide the sequence of repair steps and the methods and tools to be used. They may also be responsible for fixing interior parts such as air bags and electronic subassemblies.
While interviewing Tim Dollar, he told me all of what an Automotive Painter consists of. Tim said that he refinishes painted surfaces of cars, mixes paint, and matches colors. He also uses an air gun to spray the paint, and other protective and decorative coatings to automobiles.
The things that Tim likes about his job are being able to get dirty and not getting in trouble for it. He likes the pay which is about $21.00 per hour.
