The Count Of Monte Cristo
In the Count of Monte Cristo, Alexander Dumas brought about one of the best
revenge tragedies filled with such exhilarating details. Edmond Dantes, whose life was
brought to ruin by Fernand, Danglars and Villefort, sought vengeance on his enemies by
taking away what they loved the most. Fernand, who participated in Edmond?s
imprisonment and suffering by sending the treason letter to the prosecutor, ended up
losing his wife, Mercedes, and his son, Albert. Jealousy of Edmond?s success was the
reason that caused Danglers to plot against Edmond, yet ironically he ended up losing all
his fortune and high status. In order to keep his reputation and his father?s treason secret,
Villefort wrongfully imprisoned and took away all the happiness of an innocent life for
fourteen year. he had gone mad because his secret were revealed, his family was
breaking up, and his reputation was ruined.
The Count punished Fernand by causing his family to abandon him, and making
him to lose all his wealth and social rank. From the very beginning of the book,
Fernand?s goal in life was to obtain things he does not have. He desired power, fame,
fortune, and Mercedes. Mercedes
