Perhaps the most important quality of a good novel based on the Star Trek TV series, or for that matter on any TV show or movie, is the correspondence between the plot of the book and that of the source. One would expect at least a bit of harmony and accordance between the spirit of the loved science-fiction series and that of the books based on it.
Although this book had several moments of suspense, I would not say that this is a masterpiece by any means. Perhaps the author simply does not have what it takes
