Wild Geese By Martha Ostenso
Relevance Of Wild Geese By Martha Ostenso In Todays Society Although the novel Wild Geese was an award winning piece of literature when it was written, much of the novels original “power” has been lost over time. The hold that Caleb has over his family is strong, and the fear the family members have of him is realistic. But, the things he threatens to shame his family with no longer carry the consequence of causing the humiliation and disgrace as may have been the case in the past. The romance between Mark Jordan and Lind was an entirely new and fairly scandalous style of writing at the time, and Ostenso was one of the first authors to introduce the realist style of writing to the literary community in North America. But, by todays standards the “perfect” romance is dictated by the soap operas and prime time television shows, and the relationship Mark and Lind had is neither scandalous or seemingly romantic. The use of Judith as a sex symbol cannot be as meaningful today as it was in the past. The comparisons
