Lord of the Flies
The novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding tells about a group of young British boys who are stranded on an island. These boys must take care of themselves which is due to the fact that there are no adults on the island with them. The boys must learn to make shelters and to feed themselves. The eat fruits, berries, and meat that they get from going hunting. The hunting, however, would soon turn fatal. Hunting went from being a new adventure to an obsession in which the boys lose their innocence. Later it becomes the practice of gruesome savages where the final outcome is death.
Once all the boys assembly together and determine they are alone, they decide to choose a chief. The race is between Ralph and Jack. Ralph is tall, slender, and a very attractive boy. Jack is the leader of a choir with red hair and not as attractive as Ralph. There is also another boy, Piggy, who is the thinker and comes up with most of the ideas. Piggy though, is chubby and awkward so he is not even considered for chief. The narrator tells us, ?what intelligence had been shown was traceable to Piggy
