The Consequences of Sin in The Scarlet Letter
Every person knows that with sins come consequences. However, in the book, The Scarlet Letter it seems that the characters forget that small detail. The three main characters are Mr. Dimmsdale, Mr. Chillingworth, and Hester, and all commit sins and suffer the consequences. Although they all commit different sins, they all seem to have some of the same consequences.
Hester Prynne is the wife to Roger Prynne who changes his last name to Chillingworth, and Hester commits adultery with Dimmsdale. This sin had many consequences, some being good while others were not. One of her consequences is she has a daughter and people look at her as the product of sin. This is not that bad of a thing for it just helps her be stronger. Another consequence that made her stronger was the scarlet letter A that she had to wear upon her chest every day for the rest of her life. In the end the letter was not known for Adultery but for Able for people believed she was able to do all kinds of good things.
