As a child my mother always told me you are what you eat. I never really understood that until I grew up and saw how people acted when they were together. I am going to show how outside influences affected Naipaul and Kincaid?s main characters, leading up to their deciding to leave their homes; as well as how the British migration to Antigua affected the Antiguans.
In the novel ?Miguel Street? by VS Naipaul, the narrator befriends lots of people on Miguel Street. Most of the people on Miguel Street had a negative influence on the narrator, except his mother, Elias and B. Wordsworth.
The people on this street are easily amused because there isn?t much for them to do, ?not only is the event turned into everyday but everyday is turned into an event.? (Kincaid 56)
There was really no good education in Trinidad. The only real way you could really make something of yourself in Trinidad was to pass The Cambridge Senior School Certificate and go to England.
