From his victory on the beaches of Normandy during WW2, to his influential presidency, Dwight David Eisenhower is one of the most recognized and successful presidents of his era. After growing up in a small town in Kansas, he wanted to serve his country in any way he could. He tried to enlist in the Navy at the age of 20, but he was rejected because he was too old. After graduating from high school, Eisenhower was appointed to West Point Military Academy, which marked the beginning of his military career. After his graduation from West Point, he went through a series of promotions and became an important advisor to General Douglas Macarthur.
