Public schools and universities are meant to be a safe learning environment where everyone has an equal opportunity to learn. Nearly all have policies against drugs, skimpy outfits, and weapons. Before getting into many of the absurd cases that have occurred across the country, it is vital to understand why this subject needs to be addressed, as well as why the schools have gotten to this point in the first place. The zero tolerance policies are aimed to eliminate violent behavior exhibited by students who show signs of harm towards any other pupil or against a faculty member. These policies expand their reign across adolescents in high school all the way down to kindergarteners.
