Cuban Illegal Immigrants
Nine out of the ten people that were on the small plane leaving Cuba are the center of debate between the United States and Cuba. Since they were in U.S. waters, the U.S. says that they can apply for residency here, and become United States citizens. But Cuba says that they must be sent back, because letting them stay would violate the ?94-?95 immigration accords, aimed at encouraging orderly, legal immigration. In my opinion, they should be able to apply for residency if they want, since they worked so hard to get to the United States. Making them go back, after all they?ve been through, doesn?t seem right.
Think of how you would feel if you were in their position. If you were willing to risk your life to get out of a country, would you like to be sent back I sure wouldn?t. I?d be pretty upset.
