Lush grass under his feet. Azure skies overhead. Walking in the silence of nature was calming, he found. There was a stream up ahead. He could hear it bubbling and it came into view. Maybe he could get something to drink. As he walked closer the image started to blur and consciousness took precedence over dream.
His eyes opened and he was back in his sleeping pod. His eyes searched the glass casing just over his head, seeing nothing but the steel ceiling and the dim outline of his reflection.
He sighed. It had been so real this time. He found himself dreaming of the old world a lot lately. He missed the fresh air, the sunlight, and the sound of birds signing. Actually he missed the sound of anything that wasn?t human or machine. He wanted to go home.
But he couldn?t think of that. He was Captain Joshua Scott, head officer of the space station Sovereignty. He had to be strong for the civilians and crew. He was all they had to look to for guidance and strength. He couldn?t be weak. The future of the world depended on it.
