John Ernst Steinbeck was born in Salinas, California, in February 27,1902. He was the third child out of four, also being the only son of John Ernst II and Olive Hamilton Steinbeck. In his period of adolescence he grew up in Salinas Valley, also known as ?salad bowl of the nation.? In the year 1915 John entered ninth grade at Salinas High School. Graduating in 1919. From John?s ending of High School he traveled north to Stanford University. He periodically dropped out and reentered the university to his pleasure. This caused him to end his education in 1925. Leaving without a degree. During this time period he worked as a sales clerk, farm laborer, and a short period for The New York American.
John Ernst Steinbeck watched over a rich mans summer home in the winter, for quite a period of time. The home was isolated off of Lake Tahoe?s Emerald Bay. John kept himself busy writing the book Cup of Gold. That book was published in August of 1929 by McBride (New York). He wrote on the book as he pleased.
